1:40 p.m., July 1, 2003--Sporting spiffy Western dudsvest, boots and white hat with a gold starthe loveable UD mascot YoUDee is helping to get the message out: Play by the rules of responsible computing as outlined in the Code of the Web.
The Code of the Web is an educational initiative designed to raise awareness of, and ease the problems of, bandwidth abuse and copyright infringement.
To help get the message out, Sheriff YoUDee is appearing in a pair of 30-second videos airing before and after technology training programs on THUD (Technology Help from the University of Delaware). THUD programming on UDTV Channel 52 runs from 7 a.m.-9 p.m., daily, including on weekends and holidays, with shows starting on the hour every other hour.
In the spots, thundering onto the scene, is Sheriff YoUDee, described as a friendly stranger committed to law, order
and education, and on a mission to pull in the reins on bandwidth abuse.

There are those who would play chicken with the law, the narrator says, describing some common violations that really ruffle YoUDees feathers:
- Hacking into computers;
- Downloading large files (like movies);
- Sending harassing e-mail;
- Using copyrighted material;
- Using someone elses computer as a server; and
- Spreading computer viruses.
The message, says the sheriff, is simple: Use the Internet wiselyand use it responsibly.
