Katrina on the Ground

In the spring semester of 2006, the Center for Black Culture offered students the opportunity to participate in Gulf coast rebuilding projects. As an Alternative Spring Break, a group of approximately 30 willing and motivated UD students and staff members traveled to the New Orleans area and assisted with house gutting and other rebuilding efforts. The group was also able to stop in Selma, Alabama and participate in the Footprints to Freedom Tour. They visited sites such as the National Voting Rights Museum, Brown A.M.E. Church, the Edmund Pettus Bridge and other landmarks where heroes struggled to win voting rights.
