Theme: The Real World...Will You Be Ready?
This conference will provide freshmen and sophomore students with an
opportunity to network and obtain information from alumni panelists and guest speakers
about how to prepare for a successful career. A continental breakfast and lunch
will be provided. The conference is limited to the first 100 students. To

Lest We Forget: Black Students at the University of Delaware since the 1960’s*

This session involves a panel discussion by successive generations of
black students at the University of Delaware since the 1960s. It begins
with the reminiscences of representatives of the 60’s generation who
pressed the University administration for the establishment of a Black
Student Union, a Center for Black Culture, and the Black American
Studies Program. The discussion will provide an opportunity to assess
continuities and changes in the student experience on this campus. |

Giovanni, a self-proclaimed “Black American, daughter, mother and
professor of English,” has been one of our most celebrated and
controversial poets for over 25 years. Always insistent on presenting
the truth, Giovanni commits her words and her passion to the fight for
social justice. With numerous collections of poetry and essays, she
speaks with humor on the creativity in all that we do. As a professor
of poetry, writing, and literature at Virginia Polytech University ,
she continues to educate and inspire. |
