Statements of Purpose
Wednesday, Sept. 30; Wednesday, Oct. 28; or Monday, Nov. 30; all 3:30-5 p.m.
For those applying to masters and doctoral programs in the sciences, social sciences, humanities or arts, this workshop will explore general principles for writing convincing essays and statements ― ones that highlight students’ undergraduate work and emphasize research interests successfully.
UD Thesis Styles
Wednesday, Oct. 7, or Wednesday, Nov. 4, both 3:30-5 p.m.
Writing a thesis or dissertation is difficult enough, so why struggle with figuring out UD Thesis Styles? In this workshop, experts from IT Client Support and Services will orient participants to UD Thesis Styles and show them how to prepare their thesis or dissertation for submission.
APA Workshop
Wednesday, Oct. 14, 3:30-5 p.m.
This workshop is for those who have to document a paper for nursing, psychology, education or another social science class and who feel uncomfortable with citation systems, or who find APA particularly complex. It will help participants to understand how APA works and gain the skills necessary to feel confident about their abilities to cite sources using APA.
In this workshop, participants will practice the basics of citing sources within a paper, compiling a reference list and gaining basic knowledge of how a paper in APA is compiled visually. Participants are encouraged to bring the sources of an upcoming essay or project and to put skills into practice during this interactive presentation.
Taking the Mystery Out of Citation
Wednesday, Nov. 18, 3:30-5 p.m.
Citing sources can seem like busy work, but doing so is a crucial part of researched-based writing. This workshop will help participants show that they have done their research and used their sources ethically.
The workshop will show participants how to cite sources throughout a paper in different formats (MLA, Chicago, APA), as well as how to use citation styles to craft how a reader will respond to those sources. Bring a copy of a research paper to practice during this interactive session.
