New UD Police initiative promotes "Selfies with Cops"
4:26 p.m., Sept. 2, 2015--As a way to reach out to students and connect with the University of Delaware community, the University of Delaware Police Department has begun a new social media initiative, "Selfies with Cops."
Students, staff and members of the community are encouraged to take selfies with any UD Police officer or staff member and then post them on social media -- Facebook, Twitter or Instagram -- using the hashtags #UDelPD and #selfieswithcops.

Members of UDPD's Community Resource Unit launched the idea last week, just before annual move-in activities on campus, and already more than 30 photos have been posted, including several on the University of Delaware Police Facebook page.
“We feel this is another great way for our officers to be engaged with their community,” said Chief Patrick Ogden.
While this initiative was a specific project of the Community Resource Unit, which also offers such programs as Rape Aggression Defense and the Community Police Academy, Ogden noted, "All our officers are 'community engaged officers,' committed to ensuring that UD is a place where everyone feels safe to learn, work, live and visit."
