Shoplifting arrest leads to additional charges

11:47 a.m., Sept. 4, 2015--University of Delaware Police arrested three individuals on Tuesday, Sept. 1, after a shoplifting investigation led to additional charges.

Officers were advised of a possible shoplifting suspect at the Barnes and Noble University of Delaware Bookstore, 83 East Main St., Newark. When they arrived on the scene, they were told the suspect had left in a blue Ford Taurus, heading east on Delaware Avenue. They located the vehicle with the suspect and two other men.

The items that were reported stolen were recovered and, during the search of the vehicle, the suspect was found to be in possession of 53 baggies of heroin, 10 empty heroin baggies and a hypodermic needle.  

In addition, one of the other men in the car had three active arrest warrants for unrelated incidents, and the driver of the vehicle admitted to injecting heroin a few hours before driving and was arrested for driving under the influence.

Ronald C. Stapleton III, 33, of Wilmington, Delaware, was charged with shoplifting under $1,500, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal trespass, and was given $1,500 secured bail and transported to the Howard Young Correctional Institution. 

Daniel J. Krapf, 36, of Newark, Delaware, had three active arrest warrants and was given $6,000 cash bail and transported to the Howard Young Correctional Institution.

Marco D. Gooding, 38, of New Castle, Delaware, was charged with driving under the influence.
