Israeli musician to perform with UD Faculty Jazz Ensemble
10:21 a.m., Oct. 28, 2015--Noted Israeli jazz pianist and composer Alon Yavnai will perform with the University of Delaware Faculty Jazz Ensemble at 8 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 11, in Gore Recital Hall of the Roselle Center for the Arts on UD’s Newark campus.
General admission to the concert is $15; student admission is $5.

The concert is part of the eighth annual Israeli World Music and JazzPhest, which will include six performances in the greater Philadelphia area by various Israeli artists during November. The Nov. 11 concert is sponsored by the Consul General’s Office of Israel and the UD Department of Music.
Yavnai, whose father is Israeli and whose mother is Argentinean, has played piano since age 4. He was trained in both classical and popular music and influenced at home by Middle Eastern and Latin American jazz and pop.
Described as “the most versatile musician” by Paquito D’Rivera, with whom he first played while living in Costa Rica in the 1990s, Yavnai today plays a wide range of music, including tango, bebop, Israeli and Latin pop, big band, jazz and his own Middle Eastern-influenced compositions.
He has studied at Berklee College and has toured worldwide and recorded with such musicians as Yo-Yo Ma, Nancy Wilson, Joe Lovano, Freddie Hubbard, Ravi Coltrane and the Boston Pops.
