Student Life diversity finalists

Candidates for assistant vp for student life diversity and inclusion to give presentations

Three finalists for the new University of Delaware position of assistant vice president for student life diversity and inclusion will visit the Newark campus this week and next.

Located within the Division of Student Life, the new position will lead diversity priorities related to the student experience and will work with all campus units to advance goals for creating a diverse, welcoming and engaging environment.

During their two-day visits, the finalists will meet with a wide array of constituents, including students, faculty and staff. In addition, they each will give presentations on their visions for furthering a welcoming community, supporting underrepresented student success and engaging all students in multicultural and social justice education.

All members of the campus community, especially students, are invited to attend the presentations. Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP online at the links below.

Finalists and their scheduled presentations are

• Joya A. Crear, associate dean for university life at George Mason University, 1:45-3:15 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 1, Trabant University Center Theater, RSVP here;

• Jane N. Irungu, assistant vice president for student engagement, University of Oregon, 1:45-3:15 p.m., Monday, Dec. 5, Rodney Room, Perkins Student Center, RSVP here; and

• Stephanie H. Chang, director of the Multicultural Education Department, Guilford College, 9-10:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 9, Rodney Room, Perkins Student Center, RSVP here.

“We had a very strong candidate pool with more than 100 applicants,” said José-Luis Riera, dean of students and chair of the search committee. “Our final candidates have an impressive range of experience, and I encourage the campus community to attend their presentations and learn more about them.”

UD partnered with the search firm Keeling & Associates to conduct the national search.
