New online short course prepares health care professionals to become sleep health educators
8:17 a.m., March 15, 2016--Beginning April 4, a new online noncredit course will introduce health care professionals to the specialty of sleep medicine. Essentials of Clinical Sleep Health and Education will also help participants prepare for the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) Certificate in Clinical Sleep Health (CCSH) exam.
Participants will learn about aspects of normal and abnormal sleep, and clinical evaluation, testing and treatment of sleep disorders. Patient and family communication and education are important components of the curriculum.

“This course offers the opportunity for health care professionals to be on the cutting edge by expanding their scope of practice to include sleep health and wellness,” says Lyron Deputy, CEO of Delaware Sleep Disorder Centers. “There are more than 60 million U.S. adults that suffer from sleep or wakefulness disorders. This course is designed to support the increasing need and importance of successful sleep disorder screening and diagnosis.”
Continuing medical education credits are available for the program through the efforts of the Medical Society of Delaware (a maximum of 10.50 AMA PRA Category 1 credits).
While Essentials of Clinical Sleep Health and Education is primarily intended for health care professionals, it is beneficial to anyone interested in learning more about sleep medicine.
The course is offered entirely online. Learners will progress through the course at their own pace within the seven-week completion timeframe.
