Harvard University's Greg Mankiw to present Hutchinson Lecture
10:03 a.m., March 21, 2016--The University of Delaware's Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics has invited the UD community to attend the annual Hutchinson Lecture from 7-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 12, in Multipurpose Rooms A and B of the Trabant University Center.
This year's guest lecturer is Greg Mankiw, Robert M. Beren Professor of Economics at Harvard University. He will speak on “The Rise in Economic Inequality: Causes and Cures.”

As a student, Mankiw studied economics at Princeton University and MIT. As a teacher, he has taught macroeconomics, microeconomics, statistics and principles of economics.
Mankiw is a prolific writer and a regular participant in academic and policy debates. His research includes work on price adjustment, consumer behavior, financial markets, monetary and fiscal policy and economic growth.
His published articles have appeared in academic journals, such as the American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy and Quarterly Journal of Economics, and in more widely accessible forums, such as The New York Times, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal and Fortune.
Mankiw has written two popular textbooks -- the intermediate-level textbook Macroeconomics (Worth Publishers) and the introductory textbook Principles of Economics (South-Western/Thomson). Principles of Economics has sold over one million copies and has been translated into 20 languages.
In addition to his teaching, research and writing, Mankiw has been a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research, an adviser to the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and the Congressional Budget Office and a member of the ETS test development committee for the advanced placement exam in economics. From 2003 to 2005 he served as chairman of the President's Council of Economic Advisers.
About the Hutchinson Lecture
The Hutchinson Lecture series was established in 1990 to honor the distinguished academic career of the late Harry D. Hutchinson, a professor of economics who taught at UD from 1959-89, and to address a topic of current interest in banking and/or finance.
Hutchinson received his doctorate in economics from the University of Michigan and worked at UD until his retirement. His career was distinguished by excellence in teaching and scholarship, particularly in the area of macroeconomics. His textbook, Money, Banking and the U.S. Economy, was the foundation for many students' introduction to financial institutions. Hutchinson died on July 28, 2005.
Each year a distinguished scholar and policy-maker is invited to present the Hutchinson Lecture.
