June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

The Master Players Concert Series at the University of Delaware is honored to host the ensemble as part of the band’s first American tour since 1976. Click here for a video promoting the tour.

Hosted by Richard Fischer, chair of the Master Players Advisory Council, this concert is the first installment in Master Players’ new annual series, Great Bands of the World. Due to the sold-out status of all Master Players concerts in the fall, advance ticket purchase is recommended.

Formed in 1884, the Cory Band is one of the oldest and best-known brass bands in the world. The band hails from the Rhondda Valley in Wales. Over the decades they have won many awards, including European Brass Band Champions (five times), National Champions of Great Britain (seven times), and in November they won the Brass in Concert Championship for the fourth time. The band is dedicated to new music and the advancement of the brass band genre.

Those who plan to attend should note that to accommodate the band’s U.S. touring schedule, the concert will begin at 3 p.m., instead of the 5:30 p.m. start time listed in the season brochure.

A free-of-charge open workshop with the Atlantic Brass Band led by Cory director Philip Harper following the concert will be held from 6-7 p.m. in Mitchell Hall.

For the convenience of patrons before and after Master Players winter concerts, a free shuttle bus from the University’s Roselle Center for the Arts garage to Mitchell Hall will run every 10 minutes from 2-3 p.m. and after the concert. Click here for directions to the Roselle Center for the Arts garage.

Concessions will be served in the atrium of Gore Hall – located next to Mitchell Hall –  from 1:30-2:45 p.m. Concessions will include wine, beer, mixed drinks, soft drinks, hot drinks and assorted snacks (cash or check only). The Gore Hall restrooms will be open before the concert and during intermission.

Tickets for this event are $25 for adults; $20 for senior adults, staff, faculty and alumni; and $10 for students. Tickets can be purchased by calling the REP box office at 302-831-2204, in person, or online
