NAACP Field Day to feature music, food, games at Harrington Turf

10:26 a.m., April 21, 2016--The NAACP student affiliate at the University of Delaware has announced that it will hold a field day from 1-5 p.m., Saturday, April 30, on the Harrington Turf.

The event will feature music by DJ Blaire, along with food, games, performances and prizes. Other activities include tug-of-war, relay races and kickball.

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

The NAACP Field Day “is fitting of our chapter's theme this semester, in that we hope to address the health disparities faced by minorities/underrepresented students and to create a more inclusive environment for the underrepresented population by facilitating an event that promotes diversity and activism in the UD community,” a representative of the student affiliate said.

The representative added that the NAACP “wishes to instill healthy habits into our community members that they may continue to utilize while at the University and once they graduate.” 

Co-sponsors include Xi Omicron chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, Lambda Gamma chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, Asian Student Association, Black Student Union, We’re First, OPT 4, the Center for Black Culture and the Office of the Provost.
