UD, Newark Police offer safety tips for pedestrians, drivers

11:47 a.m., Oct. 8, 2014--Now that the fall semester is underway, pedestrian traffic around the University of Delaware Newark campus can be heavy at times, particularly during class change.

UD Police and Newark Police remind both walkers and drivers that observing laws pertaining to driving, pedestrians and crosswalk safety protects everyone.

June 6: UDid It! Picnic

All UD faculty and staff members are invited to attend the annual UDid It! employee appreciation picnic, set from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Monday, June 6, on The Green.

2FA protects you

If you are using two-factor authentication (2FA), even if a hacker has your password, your information is probably safe.

Some safety tips are provided below, or download a tip sheet here

For pedestrians:

• Always cross the street at corners within marked crosswalks when available.

• Look both ways before crossing the street and pay particular attention to turning cars.

• Wear light colors or reflective clothing at night.

• Do not step off the curb into the path of an oncoming car. 

• If you are crossing the street not in a crosswalk, you must yield the right of way to vehicles.

• When pedestrian signals are in place, you must obey the signal. 

For drivers:

• If there is no pedestrian signal in place, a driver must yield to a pedestrian who is in a crosswalk.

• No vehicle can pass another vehicle that is stopped at a crosswalk.
