Turkey with a side of friendship
OISS plans Thanksgiving events for international students and scholars
4:31 p.m., Nov. 10, 2014--Thanksgiving is traditionally a time for feasting and family. At the University of Delaware, the Office for International Students and Scholars (OISS) is working to ensure that international visitors are able to experience this unique U.S. holiday while on campus.
To introduce the international community to Thanksgiving, OISS will host two special programs in collaboration with community partners.

On Sunday, Nov. 23, OISS, in partnership with The Retreat at Newark, will host “Thanksgiving with OISS,” a Thanksgiving dinner featuring traditional fare such as turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie. Invitations have been emailed to international students and scholars with details on how to obtain tickets to this limited-attendance event.
In addition, OISS is working with community volunteers to match international students and scholars with members of the University and local communities for Thanksgiving Day dinner on Thursday, Nov. 27. Members of the community who want to invite international students and scholars to their Thanksgiving table are asked to complete an online form by Friday, Nov. 21.
OISS will confirm details on time, location and transportation after reviewing registration forms. In 2013, more than 80 international visitors were matched with host families.
Members of UD’s international community include more than 4,250 students, scholars, and family members from over 100 countries outside of the U.S.
OISS is committed to providing quality advising services and supportive programming to students and scholars during their stay at the University and in the U.S.
In collaboration with campus and community partners, OISS also contributes to the internationalization of UD by providing opportunities for growth through cross-cultural interactions and international programming. More information is available on the OISS website.
