76 undergraduate students inducted into Phi Beta Kappa
2:03 p.m., May 4, 2015--At the annual Alpha of Delaware chapter of Phi Beta Kappa’s induction ceremony, 76 undergraduates were inducted. The ceremony was held May 2 at the Perkins Student Center.
Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for arts and science disciplines was founded in 1776. The Alpha of Delaware chapter was founded at the University of Delaware in 1956.

Each year the chapter recognizes student award winners.
The deArmond Phi Beta Kappa Scholarship was awarded to Claire Davanzo, an English education and music double major. This scholarship supports graduate study in history or literature at an institution outside the state of Delaware. Davanzo has been accepted at Seton Hall University, where she plans to study for her M.A. in English.
The winner of the Herbert Ellis Newman Award was Robert Pritchard, an Honors Program student, who is majoring in political science and Spanish. This award recognizes the third-year undergraduate at UD who shows the most outstanding scholarly potential in a Phi Beta Kappa curriculum.
The winner of the Clift and deArmond Award was Amanda Shapiro, an Honors Program student, who is majoring in philosophy and cognitive science with a minor in medical humanities. This award recognizes the second-year undergraduate at the University of Delaware who shows the most outstanding scholarly potential in a Phi Beta Kappa curriculum.
