Warren Award

Rosalind Johnson, assistant dean for student success in the NUCLEUS Program in UD's College of Arts and Sciences, was presented the John Warren Excellence in Leadership and Service Award during a May 26 ceremony.

The Warren Award recognizes significant accomplishments and notable contributions in leadership by University supervisory staff. The award includes a $1,000 gift.

Shenkle was cited for leadership, commitment, hard work and ongoing attention to the key role that academic advising plays in achieving and improving student success, retention and graduation goals.

George Watson, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and Ann Ardis, deputy dean, both said that Shenkle’s key leadership role for undergraduate academic services has exceeded expectations and has resulted in positive outcomes for the University as a whole, making her an exceptional candidate for this year’s award.

Shenkle has been extraordinarily effective in mentoring the NUCLEUS staff through a major program redesign that has dramatically changed the scope and scale of supplemental advising and peer tutoring activities.

She also has worked tirelessly with the assistant deans group and the deputy provost’s office on defining and assessing student learning outcomes for University-wide advising.

Marcia Rollison, senior assistant dean for student services in the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, said Shenkle has effectively encouraged, motivated and challenged the assistant deans in all seven colleges to give advising the attention and support needed to make it an institutionally recognized significant service.

Nancy Brickhouse, deputy provost for academic affairs, highly recommended Shenkle for the John Warren Award, saying that “her creative approach to improving advising on campus – by focusing on outcomes rather than processes – has had a very positive impact.”
