Feb. 15: Serafin String Quartet
Serafin String Quartet, UD quartet in residence, to perform in Gore Recital Hall
8:03 a.m., Jan. 27, 2015--The University of Delaware will present the Serafin String Quartet, its quartet in residence, at 3 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 15, in the Gore Recital Hall of the Roselle Center for the Arts.
As UD’s quartet in residence, the Serafin’s responsibilities include performing on and off campus, coaching university and pre-college students, offering chamber music master classes and collaborating with faculty.

The February program will feature Haydn’s String Quartet in d minor, Op. 76, No. 2 Fifths, known for the falling perfect fifths at the start of the work; g Minor String Quartet by Edvard Grieg, Norway’s most celebrated composer whose use of Norwegian folk music in his compositions gained international recognition for Norway; and Sabina from Companion Guide to Rome, by Andrew Norman. Norman, a finalist for the 2012 Pulitzer Prize in music, is an active orchestral composer who joined Opera Philadelphia as composer in residence in 2013.
Following recent critical acclaim for their Naxos (2013) recording, named Top 10 Classical Albums of 2013 by Philadelphia’s City Paper, the Delaware-based Serafin String Quartet has been sought after for performances around the nation.
The quartet's eclectic programming spans the entire range of quartet repertoire (from Haydn to Higdon) and their winning performance style never fails to please an audience.
Tickets to the Feb. 15 performance cost $15 for adults, $10 for UD faculty and alumni and $5 for students, payable by cash or check at the door.
