Kathleen Pusceker, director of educational assessment in the center, lauded Hartline for her effectiveness and efficiency in managing HR-related issues.
“Marcia clearly communicates all HR messages to the staff at the weekly meetings, and is proactive in letting us know how to manage our time and benefits,” Pusceker said. “We are most lucky to have Marcia in our office.”
Hartline’s first reaction on receiving the call from HR about getting the award was, “You’ve got to be kidding.”
“It was such an honor and pleasant surprise to be nominated and awarded the HR Liaison of the Quarter,” Hartline said. “My next reaction was, ‘It was going to be a good day.’”
As an administrative assistant, Hartline’s responsibilities include processing instructional grants, setting up conferences, designing flyers and processing web forms or reports on the center’s budget.
“The diversity of the position is what I love most,” Hartline said. “Everyone in the center is a joy to work with, and I feel I learn from everyone I interact with. I look forward to coming to work every day.”
Hartline noted that while “the Center for Teaching and Assessment of Learning is small in terms of numbers, its footprint covers the entire campus.”
Collaborating with other units, including Academic Technology Services and the problem-based learning group in the Institute for Transforming Undergraduate Education, affords a wide variety of service opportunities, Hartline said.
“I feel like I am part of a team and working here allows me to utilize my skills to support the teaching, learning and assessment process at UD,” Hartline said. “Every day offers me a new opportunity to make a difference.”
