Events Stories

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

Bubeck has earned master’s and doctoral degrees in voice from Indiana University and a Performance Diploma and Opera Certificate from Peabody Conservatory. During the 2013-14 school year, Bubeck was a member of the voice faculty of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

A singer who has won international acclaim, Bubeck made his professional debut in the world premiere of John Adams’ El Niño at the Théâtre Musical de Paris-Châtelet, and has performed El Niño in more than 20 productions on four continents.

In 2012, he premiered another role, in John Adams’ Passion oratorio, The Gospel According to the Other Mary, with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and reprised the role during an international tour in spring 2013.

In an earlier interview, Bubeck said that studying in UD’s Department of Music helped prepare him for his career as a professional singer by teaching him foreign languages used in a variety of genres and by offering opera workshops for students and teaching an extensive vocal repertoire.

While at the University, Bubeck became a countertenor — a higher vocal range than most male singers, equivalent to a contralto or mezzo-soprano.

“My teacher, Dr. Melanie DeMent [associate professor of music at UD], was highly supportive in my switch from being a tenor and fostered my development in aspects of repertoire,” he said.

On Monday, Bubeck will teach a master class for UD voice students.
