Events Stories

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

The Mitzvah Project is a remarkable performance and discussion in which Roger Grunwald, actor and child of a Holocaust survivor, explores the story of Christoph Rosenberg, a German half-Jew.

The one-person drama reveals the surprising history of tens of thousands of German men known as "mischlings" – the derogatory term the Nazis used to characterize those descended from one or two Jewish grandparents – who served in Hitler's army.

Grunwald's lecture delves deeper into the history that produced these mischling soldiers, men who were the product of two centuries of German-Jewish assimilation, intermarriage, conversion and the striving of a people committed to calling the German Fatherland their home.

After the lecture, Grunwald will lead a discussion with the audience.

Following the Mitzvah Project program will be a Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) memorial service.

This event is part of UD Hillel's Holocaust Education Week, made possible by the support of the Halina Wind Preston Holocaust Education Center. For more, see the Holocaust Education Week website.

The Mitzvah Project is sponsored in part by the University’s Office of Equity and Inclusion.
