12:01 p.m., July 8, 2013--Tuition and mandatory fees for in-state undergraduate students at the University of Delaware will increase next year by the lowest percentage since 2003. The increase is $430 or 3.7 percent.

Out-of-state tuition and mandatory fees will increase $1,160 (or 4 percent) -- the lowest percentage increase since 2005.

Campus Stories

From graduates, faculty

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

Total in-state tuition and mandatory fees for the 2013–14 academic year will be $12,112, compared to $11,682 last year. Mandatory fees include the Student Health Service Fee, the Student Comprehensive Fee and the Student Center Fee.

For out-of-state students, total tuition and required fees will be $29,932, compared to last year's $28,772.

With the addition of room and board for undergraduates who choose to live and dine on campus, the total expense in the 2013–14 academic year will be $23,312 for in-state students and $41,132 for out-of-state students. (Campus housing and dining options vary, and the standard housing and dining options, totaling $11,200, are used here.)

Graduate tuition for 2013-14 will be $1,578 per credit hour, an increase of 4.25 percent or $65 per credit hour. Overall, more than four out of five graduate students receive financial assistance from UD.

Contributing to this year’s increase are rising financial aid costs, employee salaries and benefits, and operations support.

The University of Delaware remains dedicated to offering a top quality education that is financially accessible to qualified students and their families. To that end, UD has increased its overall support of undergraduate scholarships and grants by 97 percent over the past six years. In 2007-08, UD-funded scholarships and grants totaled $27.2 million, while in 2012-13 the total was $53.5 million.

Quality and affordability continue to be recognized nationally as hallmarks of the University of Delaware. Earlier this year, The Princeton Review named UD to its 2013 list of 75 “best value” public institutions of higher education, and Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine listed Delaware as one of 100 “four-year institutions that deliver a quality education at an affordable price.”
