Harry (Tripp) Shenton, professor of civil and environmental engineering, has been selected for another five-year term as chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
Honors
William A. Sullivan, managing director of Marriott’s Courtyard Newark at the University of Delaware, has been named the Newark Morning Rotary Club’s Rotarian of the Year. Sullivan was honored during a recent meeting by club president Mary Konwinski.
Presentations
Susan Strasser, Richards Chair of American History, presented "Rags, Bones, and Plastic Bags: Trash in Industrial America" to an interdisciplinary conference, "Cultures of Obsolescence in North America: Aesthetics, Materiality, History," held June 27-29, at the Georg-August-Universität in Göttingen, Germany.
Farley Grubb, professor of economics, presented his paper "The Continental Dollar: Initial Design, Ideal Performance, and the Credibility of Congressional Commitment" at the 7th World Congress of Cliometrics, Honolulu, Hawaii, June 17-20.
Allison Rosenberg, a UD student and member of the Roosevelt Institute Campus Network chapter on campus, presented “Community Development Strategic Reflections,” an exploration of best practices and successful research methods and strategies from a community development project in Newark, at the organization’s national Policy Expo held June 28 at the Pew Charitable Trusts Conference Center in Washington, D.C.
Publications
Susan Strasser, Richards Chair of American History, published an article, "Complications and Complexities: Reflections on Twentieth-Century European Recycling," in Contemporary European History, Volume 22, Issue 03 (2013).
Service
Megan Gaffney, senior assistant librarian, Access Services Department, University of Delaware Library, was elected member-at-large on the Reference and User Services Association Sharing and Transforming Access to Resources Section (RUSA STARS) of the American Library Association (ALA) for a three-year term 2013-16. She took office at the ALA Annual Conference in June in Chicago.
Sarah Katz, assistant librarian, Reference and Instructional Services Department, University of Delaware Library, was elected as the president of the College and Research Libraries Division (CRLD) of the Delaware Library Association (DLA) for 2013-14.
Hannah Lee, assistant librarian, Student Multimedia Design Center, University of Delaware Library, was elected as the American Library Association councilor of the Delaware Library Association for 2013-14.
Deborah Ryszka, associate librarian, Metadata Services Department, University of Delaware Library, was elected secretary of the Cataloging and Metadata Management Section of the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services Cataloging and Metadata Management Section (ALCTS CaMMS) of the American Library Association, for a three-year term 2013-16. She took office at the ALA Annual Conference in June in Chicago.
