NBC Learn Higher Ed features historic news reports, primary source documents, video coverage of current events and original series that can be used in research and teaching. NBC Learn also includes Campus Perspectives, original videos from academic institutions including UD.
The database has been made available through the arrangements of the presidents of the Colonial Academic Alliance member institutions, including Patrick Harker on behalf of UD. The Colonial Academic Alliance is a consortium of the 12 colleges and universities of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) that develops, promotes and facilitates collaborative programs and resource sharing throughout member institutions. UD has been a member of the CAA since 2001.
“NBC Learn is a great tool, enabling access to extensive, contemporaneous coverage of historic and current world events. Across disciplines, the database promises to enliven the teaching/learning experience, and we’re thrilled to be able to offer it to students and faculty,” Harker said.
Through NBC Learn, users can hear speeches, watch the events and witness historic moments as they were recorded by NBC News cameras. NBC Learn’s CueCard media player allows users to download, annotate, cite and embed videos. Videos and playlists can be shared via email, links or social media platforms.
The University of Delaware Library also provides online access to several other streaming video databases including VAST: Academic Online Video, American History in Video, Theatre in Video and BBC Shakespeare Plays.
