UD's Cockpit student fan group plans Cinco de Mayo event Saturday


11:21 a.m., May 1, 2013--The University of Delaware Cockpit has invited students to celebrate Cinco de Mayo early at a party to be held beginning at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, May 4, at the David M. Nelson Athletic Complex.

The party is being held in conjunction with Fandemonium IV, which will include activities, Blue Hens softball and baseball games and the annual Blue-White football scrimmage.

New contract

Monte Ross, head coach of UD's men's basketball team, has signed a three-year contract, which is his second extension at Delaware.

CAA cites Hawley, Karwoski

UD's Shannon Hawley has been named the Colonial Athletic Association player of the week, and teammate Ali Karwoski has been named the conference defensive player of the week.

Commemorative beverage glasses will be distributed exclusively to UD students with a valid UD ID card and will be available to the first 200 students who register in advance. Glasses will be distributed on a priority basis to those who register by noon on Friday, May 3.

UD students who attend should check-in at the Cockpit Cinco de Mayo tent area and secure a number to receive their beverage glass.

All students who register will receive one complimentary non-alcoholic drink at the Fandemonium IV hospitality tent. Light snacks will also be provided for those in attendance.

Wing contest

The event will include a Hooters wing eating contest beginning at noon. There will be one male and one female division, based on registration, with a limited number of spots available. If needed, names will be drawn prior to the eating contests to determine finalists for participation. The winner of each division will win a $300 gift card to Hooters.

Shuttle bus service

Fandemonium IV shuttle buses will be running to Delaware Stadium from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. from the following locations: Rodney/Dickinson, Christiana Commons (Laird) and Perkins.

Buses will return to these same locations beginning at 2 p.m. and continuing until 3:30 p.m.
