HR liaison honored
Susan James named University's HR Liaison of the Quarter
1:14 p.m., Oct. 10, 2011--Susan James, administrative assistant in the University of Delaware Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, has been named Human Resources Liaison of the Quarter for the third quarter of 2011.
Liaison of the quarter recognition is given to exemplary members of the University’s Human Resources team.

Klaus H. Theopold, professor and chair of the UD Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, lauded James for managing a department with a large number of staff and student employees, including nearly 60 graduate teaching assistants per semester.
“Susan’s concern and care for the staff and student employees is notable and highly commendable,” Theopold said. “Being responsible for preparing the contracts for all of these individuals, including a large number of foreign students, Susan does this with an admirable mixture of determination and compassion for the students, and she does this three times a year.”
Eileen Burns, assistant to the chair in the department, said James knows how to handle employment situations ranging from retirement to bringing new people onboard, as well as the challenges that lie in between.
“Susan’s knowledge of departmental operations goes way beyond her HR-related duties,” Burns said. ”She has been in the department for 37 years and is a dedicated team member who cares greatly for UD."
Surprised and honored by receiving the Liaison of the Quarter recognition, James said she enjoys helping others resolve their human resources issues.
“The best part of my job is the daily interaction with the members of my department,” James said. "There is great satisfaction in helping others.”
