“Since mid-June when our application for a Campus Store was approved by Apple, we have been working very closely with Apple’s campus program and higher education experts, Barnes & Noble local and corporate personnel and many supportive administrative staff at UD to ensure that the Apple Authorized Campus Store enhances the University community and the customer experience at the UD Bookstore,” said David Brond, vice president for communications and marketing.

Eric Nelson, manager in the Office of Communications and Marketing, who will be managing UD's Apple Authorized Campus Store, said the store will sell the full line of Apple products with the exception of iPhones. "We'll have a variety of Macbooks, iMacs, iPads and iPods available as demos for customers to try out," he said, adding that the store "will be opening with a healthy supply of iPad 2s."

UD is also an Apple Authorized Service Provider through a relationship with Springboard Media, which will pick up Apple products needing service and return them to the store once repaired or upgraded, Nelson said.

"While UD's AACS is contractually limited to selling only to UD students, faculty and staff, we encourage everyone to come by and learn about Apple products," Nelson said. "Those without a UD i-card (ID card) also can purchase at the nearby Christiana Mall Apple Store or online."

Nelson added, "Apple makes amazing products that are a joy to their owners -- I speak from many years of experience. Having our AACS right here in the University Bookstore makes it not only easy to buy them, but, more importantly, gives the UD community easy access to come in and learn what the products are all about and what they can do. Our expert staff will be on hand to guide those who are new to the product line."

UD and Barnes & Noble opened ground for construction of the new UD Bookstore on Aug. 30, 2010. The bookstore is located at 83 E. Main St., with entrances off Main Street and Academy Street.
