Eighth annual winter series focuses on indie films and music
1:26 p.m., Jan. 4, 2012--The eighth annual Winter Independent Film Series at the University of Delaware will feature five films focused on indie films and music, including Almost Famous, Anvil! The Story of Anvil, Control, Beats, Rhymes and Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest and The Swell Season.
Sponsored by University Student Centers, the films will be shown every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Trabant University Center Theatre from Jan. 4 through Feb. 1.

The series is free and open to the public. Seating is limited, and tickets will not be available in advance.
The films and schedule are as follows:
• Jan. 4 – Almost Famous is the story of 15-year-old William Miller, played by Patrick Fugit, who is an aspiring journalist hired by Rolling Stone magazine to learn firsthand about the world of rock and roll.
• Jan. 11 – Anvil! The Story of Anvil is a documentary following two founding members of Anvil, Robb Reiner and Steve “Lips” Kudlow, through their struggle to reclaim a chance at fame. The film is directed by Sacha Gervasi.
• Jan. 18 – Control. Sam Riley plays Ian Curtis, lead singer of Joy Division, as he juggles worldwide fame alongside a crumbling marriage and debilitating illness.
• Jan. 25 – Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest is directed by Michael Rapaport and provides a glimpse behind the scenes of A Tribe Called Quest, an innovative group that has influenced modern hip hop music for more than three decades.
• Feb. 1 – The Swell Season follows Oscar-winning songwriters Glen Hansgard and Markéta Irglová as their enigmatic on-screen collaboration sparks a lasting off-screen bond.
