Aug. 24: Solar power trip
Field trip scheduled to Solar Park in Dover
1:51 p.m., Aug. 17, 2011--UD's Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is cosponsoring a field trip to Solar Park in Dover at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 24.
Solar Park, with a $50 million, 10-megawatt installation, has 19 percent efficient E cells in arrays that track the sun to produce enough electricity to power 1,300 to 1,500 homes. The first such installation in Delaware, it went into operation earlier this summer.

Bill Neaton, who runs the park, will give a tour of the facility. Afterward, participants will visit an installation for an individual home, together with a solar water heater.
Participants will meet at the Solar Park, which is located on White Oak Road in Dover. The Solar Park can be reached by taking Route 13 in Dover south to White Oak Road. Turn left at White Oak Road and follow it over the bridge across Route 1. The park is on the left.
