"YoUDee" Awards

LEADERSHIP AWARDS CATEGORIES AND CRITERIA

The Student Centers offers many awards for outstanding leadership, scholarship and volunteerism to Individuals, Registered Student Organizations, Fraternities and Sororities, and Sport Clubs. This year's Awards will be presented at the annual ceremony to be held on Thursday May 15, 2008. Individuals may nominate themselves, their organization, or another individual or organization for an award. Please complete a nomination form by clicking on the link for each award category and submit via email or via mail to the Activities and Programs Office, 218 Trabant University Center by 4:30 pm on Friday 4/11/08.

ELIGIBILITY:
The eligibility period for nominations for the 2007 awards is for the academic year of 4/12/07 through 4/10/08. All programs must be held by midnight on 4/10/08.

Registered Student Organizations and Chartered Greek Organizations on any form of judicial status or penalties at the time of award selection (Spring semester) are not eligible for consideration. Additionally, any Registered Student Organizations or Chartered Greek Organizations with past due monies owed to the University at the time of selection are not eligible for consideration. Leaders of student organizations that have such sanctions or debts are not eligible for individual leadership awards.

PLEASE NOTE: Complete the application as thoroughly as possible, including additional pages, attachments, photos and flyers from events, etc. The more details and materials the selection committee has to consider, the better chance for the nominee to be selected as finalist or recipient. ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST BE TYPED.

INDIVIDUALS

Outstanding Advisor (form: msword)
           This award recognizes outstanding support and guidance by the volunteer advisor of an organization. The individual must demonstrate devotion, caring, and mentoring to the organization. This is a person who exceeds expectations, attends meetings/events on a regular basis, and has a positive impact on the success of the organization and its leaders.
          NOTE: Professional Advisors and Advisors who received the award the previous year are not eligible.
            Eligible organizations: RSO, Fraternity/Sorority, Sport Clubs

Outstanding Leader  (form: msword)
           This is awarded to a member of an organization who has demonstrated outstanding leadership skills while involved in the organization. The member has been instrumental in helping the organization work towards its mission as well as help plan and conduct successful programming.
         Eligible organizations: RSO, Sport Clubs

            Chapter Leader of the Year: This is awarded to a member of a recognized Greek organization who has demonstrated outstanding leadership skills while involved within their perspective organization. The member has been instrumental in helping the chapter work towards its mission as well as help plan and conduct successful programming.
            Greek Leader of the Year:This is awarded to a member of one of the four governing councils (Greek Council, IFC, NPHC or Panhellenic Council) who has demonstrated outstanding leadership. The member has been instrumental in helping Fraternity & Sorority Life advance itself within the university, local and national communities. The member has also played a vital role in helping the Greek community work towards its mission through planning and conducting successful large scale programming, diversity programming, career programming, risk management programming, community service and recruitment.
         NOTE: The individual does NOT have to be an officer of the organization or chapter, but rather someone who has provided leadership to the group, its members and the University Community.
            Eligible organizations: Fraternity/Sorority

Outstanding Treasurer
            This award recognizes the outstanding management of the group's treasury books, reconciliation of ledgers and maintenance of the treasurer file. In addition this individual should have made efforts to increase the organization' funds as well as obtain necessary funding properly in order to implement planned events successful.
            NOTE: Nominations will NOT be accepted for this award, the recipient will be chosen by the selection committee based on performance and treasurer records.
            Eligible organizations: RSO, Sport Clubs

Outstanding Public Relations Individual (form: msword)
     This award recognizes a student leader who has worked hard to improve his/her organization through advertising, public relations, ambassadorship, and group spirit.   Nominees for this award do not necessarily have to have served as official advertising, public relations or other related titles within the organization, but rather any student who has promoted his/her group in creative and inspiring ways may be nominated.

PROGRAMS

PLEASE NOTE: All programs must have been held ON CAMPUS.

  • An individual can only nominate a single program sponsored by an organization for only ONE of the following five categories.
  • For programs co-sponsored by two or more organizations, all groups are eligible for the award.

Outstanding Program (form: msword)
            This award recognizes an organization for following its mission and purpose with planning and implementing a program, activity or service exceedingly well. The program should have had provided a positive reflection of the organization to the campus community beyond its own members.
            Eligible organizations: RSO, Fraternity/Sorority

Outstanding Late Night/Alternative Program (form: msword)
           This award recognizes a program that provides a positive and creative alternative to alcohol, specifically on Thursday-Saturday evenings. The program should be unique, non-traditional, differ from the organization’s usual programming, marketed effectively, and successful in terms of its impact to the campus community beyond the organization’s own members.
            Eligible organizations: RSO, Fraternity/Sorority

Outstanding Diversity  (form: msword)
           This award recognizes an event that takes a lead in educating the campus community on issues related to diversity. This includes but is not limited to issues pertaining to women, racial/cultural, religion, gender and sexuality, and more. The program should be unique, creative, marketed effectively, and successful in terms of its impact to the campus community beyond the organization’s own members. 
            Eligible organizations: RSO, Fraternity/Sorority

Outstanding Co-Sponsored Program  (form: msword)
           This award recognizes an event that was sponsored by at least two recognized Registered Student Organizations or Fraternities/Sororities. Co-sponsorship should involve far more than just financial support, and should show evidence of the organizations working together successfully to develop the program as well as share in responsibilities for implementing the event. The event should be creative, original, marketed effectively, and successful in drawing a large and varied audience of the campus community.
         NOTE: If the co-sponsorship was with a department or outside organization, the program is only eligible if at least one other recognized student organization or Greek chapter served as co-sponsor.

Outstanding Lecture  (form: msword)
           This award recognizes a lecture program that was successful in attendance, educating the campus community on a topic related to the organization’s mission in a creative and appealing way, and impacting the campus community beyond the organization’s own members.
            Eligible organizations: RSO, Fraternity/Sorority

ORGANIZATIONS

Outstanding Community Service  (form: msword)
           This award recognizes an organization’s involvement in a community service activity that positively impacts the targeted community. The specific program may be held on or off campus and should relate to the organization’s mission. It is preferred that the activity had a notable impact on the organization and its members that continued throughout the year.
            Eligible organizations: RSO, Fraternity/Sorority

Outstanding Philanthropy  (form: msword)
         This award recognizes an organization’s efforts in raising funds for charitable contributions. This can be from a single event or an ongoing community service activity. The beneficiary of the contributions should relate to the organization’s mission. Submissions MUST show evidence of the contribution from the beneficiary.
          Eligible organizations: RSO, Fraternity/Sorority

Outstanding Web Site  (form: msword)
           This award recognizes an organization’s web site for clarity, creativity, appeal, uniqueness and including updated information about the organization. It should also be in compliance with University and Activities and Programs policies and procedures. Any sites which include offensive, inappropriate or lewd material will be disqualified.           
            Eligible organizations: RSO, Fraternity/Sorority, Sport Clubs

Outstanding Overall Achievement  (form: msword)
           This award recognizes an organization for following its mission, achieving its objectives successfully and making an impact on campus throughout the academic year. The organization has stayed active through effective marketing and publicity of meetings and events, sponsoring a variety of successful programs, sustaining an active membership, and maintaining positive relationships with other organizations and departments. Actions of the organization and its members should exceed expectations.
            Eligible organizations: RSO, Sport Clubs


Outstanding Overall Chapter of Year
            This award recognizes a chapter for following its mission and fulfilling its purpose successfully while having a positive presence and impact on overall Greek life and the campus community throughout the academic year. This can be done through effective marketing and publicity of events, successfully sponsoring a variety of programs as well as monitoring and regulating the negative public actions of the organization and its members. Additional criteria for this award include: Greek Games placement, CAP scores, GPA, National Awards, National recognition, Local Awards, New Member Retention, Recruitment #'s (increased? above the average? etc.), and Judicial Status (both within the University and governing body systems).
           NOTE: Nominations will not be accepted for this award, the recipient will be chosen by the selection committee
            Eligible organizations: Fraternity/Sorority

Best New RSO (form: msword)  
           This award is only open to Registered Student Organizations who have been recognized for less than two academic years (no earlier than September 2006), but have been able to quickly build membership and become a known presence and have a positive impact on campus through its successful marketing, activities and programs. It recognizes success in both quality and quantity of activities, as well as establishing relationships with other organizations and departments.
           NOTE: The previous year’s award recipient is not eligible for this year.

Innovation in Advertising Award (form: msword)
           Overall Advertising: This award recognizes an organization which best exemplifies outstanding achievement in advertising and publicity. The organization must have demonstrated excellence in publicity, advertising and marketing its organization overall. Marketing materials should be tasteful, creative, original, non-traditional, eye catching, and have contributed to making the organization as a whole highly successful. Materials must reflect the mission and purpose of the organization as well as University pride/spirit.
           Outstanding Event: This award recognizes advertising for a single or series of on campus events which best exemplifies outstanding achievement in advertising and publicity. The organization must have demonstrated excellence in publicity, advertising and marketing for the specific event. Marketing materials should be tasteful, creative, original, non-traditional, eye catching, and have contributed to making the event highly successful. Materials must reflect the mission and purpose of the organization as well as University pride/spirit.
           NOTE: All material must be for the time period of 4/12/07 through 4/10/08. Samples of the specific advertising (t-shirts, flyers, invites, photos etc) MUST be included with the application.

FRATERNITY AND SORORITY SPECIFIC

Outstanding Scholarship Program (form: msword)
           This award recognizes a chapter who has promoted excellence in scholarship for its members. It recognizes those who adhere to a scholarship mission statement, enforce academic policies and regulations, provide information on academic resources for its members, provide awards and incentives or performance, and arrange programs which highlight academic excellence.

Outstanding Chapter GPA
           This award goes to the fraternity and sorority with the highest overall GPA for the academic year. Nominations are NOT accepted for this award.

The following categories are recognized at the annual banquet, but are not nominated through the activities and programs office:

Leadership Program Certificates
(series)
            This recognizes students who have successfully completed Student Center sponsored leadership series by attending the required number of workshops.

Blood Drive Awards
           This award is determined by the Blood Bank of Delaware to all organizations that provided outstanding support and sponsored blood drives this academic year.

The Grossman Memorial Award

          This award recognized a Junior or Senior individual for an outstanding contribution to campus wide co-curricular programs. The recipient must demonstrate high quality of leadership and organizational ability.
