Guillermina Gonzalez (MALS 09), director, Voces Sin Fronteras, will give a talk Sept. 25th as part of the Area Studies Lecture Series.
Carolyn Stankiewicz (MALS 07) has been selected to participate in the UD Research on Women 2008 lecture series on Oct. 29th. The event is free and open to the public.
Maria Keane (MALS 94) received the National Exhibitions & Literary Contests First Place award in Sestina April 2008. Maria is an artist and a literary member of the National League of American Pen Women. Daniel Royot, Emeritus Professor of American Literature and Civilization at the Sorbonne in Paris, will lecture on "The Bald Eagle and Rooster: The French Paradoxes of Americanization and Anti-Americanism from Past to Present." |

******************************************* What Is MALS? If a traditional academic department were a country, MALS would be the U.N. MALS courses, taught by faculty from all over the College of Arts and Sciences, break down traditional departmental boundaries to explore important questions through a variety of perspectives. Course offerings include such diverse topics as bioethics and modern literature, social myths and American foreign policy, and the roles played by film, food, art, and war in shaping our current society. As a whole, the MALS program develops the timeless qualities of a liberal education at the graduate level: to think freely, to imagine adventurously, to choose discriminately, and to understand deeply. What does it mean to be human? How do we explain ourselves to ourselves? Where did we come from, and where are we going? What do we mean by good and evil?
