Wireless
Access
In UD Residence Halls
You can reach UD's wireless network from all residence hall
rooms and common areas--and from locations all across the
campus. Before using our wireless network you
must register your
computer's or Internet-capable device's wireless adapter with us.
Registration and other basic information
-
You can use either the UDel or UDel Secure wireless network to
do your work. The UDel network is secure; the UDel Secure
network has some extra safeguards but may not work with all
wireless adapters or be available on all parts of the Newark
campus.
- You can
use the UDel Help network to register your computer's or device's
wireless adapter and automatically configure your computer for
the UDel Secure network. You can also
register at UD's
Network page.
Devices that do not have a Web browser will require you to
register that device's MAC address manually: directions for
Wii
consoles; directions for
Xbox 360 consoles.
- When available, an Ethernet (wired) connection will always be
faster than a wireless connection.
Restrictions
- Do not use your own wireless access
point or wireless router in your residence hall room.
- Do not connect a printer to UD's
wireless network. Bring a USB cable for your printer, even if your
printer has wireless capabilities. Making a printer available
over a wireless network opens it up for anyone to use or abuse.
Therefore, we are
not allowing wireless printers on UD's network.
