Adding UDel Secure for Windows 7

IMPORTANT NOTE
In general, to configure Windows 7 to access the UDel Secure wireless network, you can follow the Adding the UDel Secure wireless network to Windows 7 instructions.

However, if those instructions do not work on your computer, follow the How to manually add the UDel Secure wireless network to Widows 7 instructions.

You do NOT need to do both.

Adding the UDel Secure wireless network for Windows 7

In general, to configure Windows 7 to access the UDel Secure wireless network, you can follow the instructions in this section. However, if these instructions do not work on your computer, follow the manual set up in the section below.

  1. Click the wireless network icon in the system tray (as indicated by the red arrow in the following graphic).    

  2. The Wireless Network Connection window will appear and should display the wireless networks within range of your computer. The strength of each wireless signal will also be indicated as shown in the following graphic:

  3. Click UDel Secure to highlight it.
  4. Click the Connect button as shown in the following graphic:

  5. You may see a Windows Security Alert dialog box that looks similar to the following graphic and indicates the connection could not be completed. If so, click Connect.

    IMPORTANT NOTE
    If you have problems authenticating after this step, you may need to add the network manually (outlined below).
     
  6. To access the UDel Secure wireless network, you must be a member of the UD community, and you must provide authentication information to log in. The Windows Security window will appear requesting network authentication as shown in the following graphic:

    • In the User name text field, type your UDelNet ID (e.g., janedoe).   
    • Press TAB.
    • In the Password text field, type your password. 
    • Click OK.
       
  7. Click the wireless network icon in the bottom right-hand side of the system tray again. The information should now look similar to the following:

  9. Click Open Network and Sharing Center at the bottom of the window.

  10. Click Manage wireless networks (as indicated by the red arrow in the following graphic).

  11. Check the order of the list of networks. If UDel Secure is not listed first (as in the following graphic), click on the name and drag it to the top of the list.

Manually adding UDel Secure to Windows 7

  1. Click the wireless network icon in the system tray (as indicated by the red arrow in the following graphic).

  1. The Wireless Network Connection window will appear and should display the wireless networks within range of your computer. The strength of each wireless signal will also be indicated as shown in the following graphic:

  3. Click Open Network and Sharing Center near the bottom of the window.
  4. Click Manage wireless networks (as indicated by the red arrow in the following graphic).

  5. Click Add (the first option in the gray bar below).

  6. You should see the Manually connect to a wireless network dialog box that should look similar to the following:

  7. Click Manually create a network profile.
  8. In the Network name text box, type UDel Secure. From the Security type drop-down box choose WPA2-Enterprise. From the Encryption type drop-down box, choose AES.
  9. Uncheck Start this connection automatically and Connect even if the network is not broadcasting, if these are checked.

    The dialog box should now look similar to the following:

  10. Click Next. You should receive the message that you successfully added UDel Secure.
  11. You should now see a dialog box that looks similar to the following:

  12. Click Change connection settings.
  13. Click the Connection tab. None of the options should be checked on this tab, and the dialog box should look similar to the following:

  14. Click the Security tab. Uncheck Remember my credentials for this connection each time I'm logged on if it is checked. The dialog box should now look similar to the following:

  15. Click the Settings button to the right of Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP).
  16. In the Protected EAP Properties dialog box, under When connecting, click Validate server certificate.
  17. In the Trusted Root Certification Authorities list, check GlobalSign Root CA. The dialog box should now look similar to the following:

  18. Click the Configure button next to Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2).
  19. In the EAP-MSCHAP v2 Properties dialog box, uncheck Automatically use my Windows login name and password (and domain if any). The dialog box should now look similar to the following:

  20. Click OK.
  21. Click OK on the UDel Secure Wireless Network Properties dialog box.
  22. On the Security tab, click the Advanced Settings button.
  23. On the Advanced Settings dialog box, click the 802.1X Settings tab.
  24. Check Specify Authentication mode and from the drop-down menu, click User authentication. The dialog box should now look similar to the following:

  25. Click OK.
  26. Click OK on the Security tab window.
  27. Click Close.
  28. Click the wireless network icon in the system tray (as indicated by the red arrow in the following graphic).

  1. Highlight UDel Secure and click Connect. You should be prompted for your UDelNet ID and password. After you type this information, you should be connected.

Removing UDel Secure from Windows 7

  1. Click the wireless network icon in the system tray (as indicated by the red arrow in the following graphic).    

  2. Click Open Network and Sharing Center.
  3. In the left-hand column, click Manage wireless networks.
  4. Right-click UDel Secure.
  5. Click Remove network.
  6. A connection to the UDel Secure network will now be unavailable to you unitl you re-add it following the instructions above.
