Living in Delaware:
Housing and Dining

The ELI provides housing for all F-1 students. Some housing choices include kitchens, but students can also buy meal plans and eat in University dining halls or food courts.

Choose the type of housing you want on the ELI application form. Some housing options may not be available every ELI session, so we recommend that you send your application to us as early as possible to increase your chances of getting the housing you chose. Housing assignment depends on the date the ELI receives your completed application and the number of students attending that session.

Dining

If you are living in the dorm, Studio Green, the INNternationale or an apartment, you will be able to purchase the food you need to cook for yourself from local supermarkets located close to campus.

At lunch time - when you are busy on campus, you may want to eat at the one of the University of Delaware facilities. The University has five dining halls, two food courts, six snack bars and three campus markets located around the campus to serve students. A wide variety of foods are offered at each.

ELI students can purchase university "meal plans" which can be used to buy meals or snacks. Meals and "flex" plan information and costs are available at the ELI during orientation and throughout the session.

Newark is a small town with many restaurants that are meant for university students. There are many pizza and sandwich shops as well as ethnic restaurants within walking distance. On Main Street you will find Arabic, Vietnamese, Japanese, Chinese, Italian and Mexican restaurants.

The 'Off Campus Meal Plan" (OCMP) is accepted at most of the local restaurants. You can view information about purchasing OCMP on-line at http://ocmp.com.
