Prized since ancient times for its beauty and indestructability, the diamond has come to symbolize commitment and lasting value.
Delaware is nicknamed the Diamond State because Thomas Jefferson once remarked that the state was the jewel of the Eastern Seaboard. We have chosen the diamond as the motif for this report because the University of Delaware is one of the most valuable assets of the Diamond State.
Not only does the University provide a world-class education for its students, Delaware residents and nonresidents alike, it serves as a major employer and economic engine for the state.
