Meir, Eli. Evolutionary Evidence: A New Virtual Lab Exploring the Evidence for Evolution. SimBiotic Software, Ithaca, NY
Visitors to this demonstration will be guided through a new EvoBeaker(tm) lab from SimBiotic Software that explores the types of evidence which can support or refute evolution. This Evolutionary Evidence lab focuses on how evolution predicts nested traits between groups of related species, that is, species that are more closely related will share more traits than those that are farther apart. Students also experiment with how nested traits are related to interpretation of fossil discoveries, and are introduced to transitional fossils. You can see a fuller description of the lab at http://simbio.com/about/news-Evolutionary-Evidence. After participants experience the lab, we'll present preliminary results from a large-scale research study we are conducting this spring on what misconceptions students have around the evidence for evolution, and how well our Evolutionary Evidence lab addresses (or doesn't address) each misconception.
