The overarching theme of the Booksh research group is the development of in-situ chemical sensors for environmental, biomedical, and industrial process monitoring. Our research is predicated on the belief that it is better to build small chemical sensors capable of reliable measurements in the field or in the process than to collect samples for future laboratory analysis. We are focusing largely on fiber optic surface plasmon resonance, Raman, and fluorescence sensor. However we are also interested in mid-IR sensors as well as Raman and IR imaging. Chemometric analysis of collected data and multivariate sensor calibration are also major research directions.
