The “Glass Shop” fabricates, modifies and repairs scientific apparatus / instruments. Shop services are made available to all departments on campus, however Chemistry and Biochemistry projects take precedence. Consultation is also available on design, function and safety. A technical and material library is maintained to assist in locating needed information, products and parts. Feel free to email any glass or related questions, but please allow a few days for a proper response. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm. Always read "Latest News" for current shop information or notice of scheduled closings.

Submitting A Work Request


Glass - A hard, brittle and non-crystalline material typically
formed from the rapid cooling of liquefied minerals. Most
glass recipies start from a molten mixture of soda ash,
sand, and lime. Other elements may be added to
form multi-purpose or specialized glass types.
