Former Hen Matt Nagy leads AFL’s Destroyers
Former UD quarterback Matt Nagy led a game-winning drive as the Columbus Destroyers won an opening round contest in the Arena Football League playoffs.
10:27 a.m., July 2, 2007--Former University of Delaware quarterback Matt Nagy threw for five touchdowns and ran for another to give the Columbus Destroyers a 56-55 victory over the host Tampa Bay Storm in the opening round of the Arena Football League playoffs.

The Destroyers will travel to play the Dallas Desperados, who are 15-1, on Saturday night, July 7.

Against Tampa Bay, Columbus trailed late but got the ball back with 1:06 left to play and Nagy led a time-consuming, seven-play drive that ended when he got into the end zone on a one-yard run. The Destroyers took the lead on the extra point.

Nagy finished the game with 19 completions in 26 attempts for 260 yards and five touchdowns.

As a member of the Fightin' Blue Hens, Nagy passed for 7,943 yards. He threw for 537 yards in a game against the University of Connecticut in 1998 and for 437 yards against Villanova University in 2000. He led UD to the NCAA Division I-AA national championship tournament semifinals in 2000.
