Marshall wins hammer, shot put at Towson

UD’s Amanda Marshall won two events, the hammer and the shot put, at the Towson Invitational.

9:02 a.m., March 26, 2007--The University of Delaware's Amanda Marshall won the hammer and shot put and six other Fightin' Blue Hens came home winners at the Towson Invitational track and field meet held Saturday afternoon.

Marshall won the hammer with a throw of 148 feet, 7 inches and the shot put with a throw of 40 feet, 7.75 inches. Also for the UD women's team, Kelli McDonald won the pole vault with a leap of 10 feet, Christie Marquez won the 800-meter run in 2:17.27 and Asha Quant won the 200-meter dash in 26.30.

Laura Chirico finished second in the pole vault, Christina Antonopoulos finished second in the 1,500-meter run and Daniella Price finished second in the 200-meter dash. Quant finished third in the 400-meter dash and Alexi Capsouras finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles.

Liz Harvin was fourth in both the 400-meter dash and the 200-meter dash, while Stephanie Cronk finished fourth in the discus, Annie Fulton finished fourth in the triple jump and Annie Kowtoniuk finished fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Also, Yianna Antonopoulos finished fifth in the 1,500-meter run.

In men's competition, UD's Jared Wasser won the shot put with a throw of 48 feet, 3.25 inches, Brandon Swartout won the long jump with a leap of 22 feet, 3.75 inches, and Chris Bourke won the 5,000-meter run in 15:24.20.

Dave Schwartz finished second in the hammer throw, Doug Alpers finished second in the discus and Steven Jackson finished second in the 400-meter dash.

Third place finishes were earned by Alpers in the shot put, Chase Renoll in the discus throw, Conrad Rapp in the pole vault and Nick Pyle in the 10,000-meter run.

Chris Dixon finished fourth in the 400-meter dash, Wasser was fifth in both the hammer and the discus, Renoll finished fifth in the shot put, Matt Arbaugh finished fifth in the pole vault, Phil Weigel finished fifth in the 1,500-meter run and Matt O'Brian finished fifth in the 5,000-meter run.

Both UD teams will compete in the Winthrop Invitational to be held Thursday though Saturday, March 29-31, and in the Maryland Invitational on Saturday, March 31.
