Track stars Marquez, Gomes named All-East

9:16 a.m., March 5, 2007--University of Delaware track and field standouts Cristine Marquez and Michelle Gomes earned All-East honors and set school records in the process as the indoor track and field teams closed out the season Sunday at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes in America (IC4A) championships in Boston.

Marquez finished eighth in the 400-meter dash, breaking her own school record of 56.33 with a time of 55.74 in the preliminaries and following with a time of 55.84 in the finals.

Gomes competed in two events, finishing eighth to earn All-East honors in the 60-meter dash and finishing 11th in the 200-meter dash. In the 60 meters, she broke her own school record of 7.66, running a 7.61 in the semifinals.

Also for the UD women's team, the 4x400-meter relay team of Marquez, Daniella Price, Brittany Wright and Asha Quant finished ninth with a time of 3:51.30 and Quant finished ninth in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 2.5 inches.

Kelli McDonald finished 11th in the pole vault (11 feet, 7.75 inches) and Rachel Young finished 21st in the shot put (40 feet, 3.5 inches).

In men's competition, UD's Gregg Cantwell finished 19th in the 3,000-meter run with a career-best time of 8:28.08 while Jared Wasser finished 19th in the shot put for the second straight year with a toss of 52 feet, 1.75 inches.
