Delaware men's tennis tops Bethune-Cookman

8:26 a.m., March 28, 2007--The University of Delaware men's tennis team defeated Bethune-Cookman College 5-2 in a match played Tuesday afternoon, while the UD women's team fell 6-1.

UD's Matthew Liebman defeated Jerome Ward 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 singles, Sam Barrer defeated Stefan James 7-6 (5), 6-2 at No. 4, Jonathan Schwartz defeated Yannick Jackson 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5 and Camilo Perez defeated Luiz Gomes 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.

The Fightin' Blue Hens took the doubles point as Austin Longacre and Andrew Blumberg defeated James and Jackson 8-3 at No. 2 while Barrer and Perez defeated Ward and Gomes 8-2 at No. 3.

In women's play, Brittany Barsky was the lone winner for the Hens as she posted a 1-6, 7-6, 12-10 win over Valerie Kendrick at No. 5 singles.

The UD tennis teams will visit Stetson University for matches Wednesday afternoon, March 28. The women's team will take to the court at 2 p.m., with the men's match to follow at 4 p.m.
