Delaware softball team takes two at Del State
UD freshman pitcher Michelle Kenney drove in five runs and threw a one-hitter in the 8-0 victory over Delaware State.
8:05 a.m., March 29, 2007--The University of Delaware softball team swept a doubleheader against Delaware State University on Wednesday afternoon, winning 2-1 and 8-0 at the Hornets Nest field in Dover.

In the first game, senior pitcher Carolynn Sloat scattered six hits, struck out five batters and allowed just one run for the Fightin' Blue Hens. UD broke on top with a run in the second when freshman first baseman Michelle Kenney, who had singled, scored on a wild pitch. The Hens scored again in the fourth when third baseman Michelle Plant, who had doubled, scored on a throwing error.

Plant finished the game with three hits, while center fielder Katie Lee had two hits.

In the second game, UD got an outstanding performance from Kenney, who pitched a one-hit shutout and had two hits, including a three-run home run, and drove in five runs. Second baseman Alison Borchers had three hits and scored three runs.

UD broke on top with five runs in the first inning, including the Kenney home run.

With the victories, the Hens improved to 7-12-1. They will return to action with a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series at Towson University. The teams will play a doubleheader beginning at noon, Saturday, March 31, and a single game beginning at 1 p.m., Sunday, April 1.
