UD men’s lacrosse team edges Hofstra, 6-5

Goalkeeper Tommy Scherr anchored a strong defense in UD’s victory over Hofstra.

9:45 a.m., March 26, 2007--The University of Delaware men's lacrosse team played strong defense to defeat Hofstra University 6-5 in a Colonial Athletic Association game played Saturday night at Rullo Stadium.

With the victory, the Fightin' Blue Hens snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in the Colonial. They will return to action with a game at Duke University at 3 p.m., Friday, March 30.

UD is ranked No. 12 in the most recent U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association poll, while Duke is ranked No. 5.

In the victory over Hofstra, UD goalkeeper Tommy Scherr had nine saves, including several key stops in the fourth quarter.

UD attack Chris Hichborn scored two goals and Adam Zuder-Havens, Rob Smith, Dan Deckelbaum and Martin Cahill scored one each. The Zuder-Havens goal was the game winner.

Deckelbaum and Kyle Rotelli had assists for the Hens, who played without three of their top offensive players in three-time All-CAA attack Cam Howard (knee injury), 2005 CAA Player of the Year Jordan Hall (one-game suspension) and Vincent Giordano (foot injury).
