No. 10 Hens top Mount 19-5 in men’s lacrosse

Chris Hichborn scored four goals in UD’s victory over Mount St. Mary’s.

4:17 p.m., March 6, 2007--The University of Delaware men's lacrosse team, which is 5-0 following this afternoon's 19-5 victory over Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, Md., has jumped to No. 10 in the most recent U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association NCAA Division I poll and No. 11 in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse poll.

The No. 10 ranking is the highest for the Fightin' Blue Hens since the 1999 NCAA tournament team finished the regular season at No. 6 in the USILA voting.

The Hens have a ramped up schedule, traveling to meet No. 4 State University of New York at Albany at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 10, before returning home to face No. 2 Georgetown University at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 14, at Rullo Stadium.

In Tuesday's victory over Mount St. Mary's, the Hens scored nine unanswered goals to open the game. UD sophomore attack Chris Hichborn finished with four goals, and senior Dan Deckelbaum and freshman Kevin Kaminski had three each. Alex Smith won 22 of 26 face-offs and goalkeeper Tommy Scherr had five saves.

Also scoring for the Hens were Vincent Giordano and Martin Cahill, with two each, and Beau Davis, Jordan Hall, Brett Manney, Marty Kupprion and D.J. Widlake
