UD’s Kimmie Meissner fourth in championships

11:02 a.m., March 26, 2007--Kimmie Meissner of the University of Delaware Figure Skating Club finished fourth in the International Skating Union world championships held in Tokyo, relinquishing her title to Miko Ando of Japan.

Mao Asada, also of Japan, finished second and Yu Na Kim of South Korea finished third in the competition.

Meissner was in fourth place after the short program on Friday and was unable to overtake the leaders in the free skate on Saturday.

It has been a remarkable year for the Fallston (Md.) High School senior, who last year won the world title and followed that with a U.S. national championship in January and a Four Continents title in February.

Meissner, 17, has been training at the University's Ice Skating Science Development Center since she was 8.
