Delaware golfers finish third in Carolina event

UD sophomore Tommy Ellison tied for sixth in weekend action at Myrtle Beach, S.C.

8:44 a.m., March 19, 2007--The University of Delaware golf team finished in a tie for third place in at the Fairfield Spring Invitational hosted by Fairfield University at the Crown Park Golf Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C. It was the season opener for the Fightin' Blue Hens.

UD, which was in second place after Friday's round, posted a team score of 314 on Friday and 327 on Saturday to finish at 641, tied with Concord University for third place and trailing only team champion Siena College (625) and runner-up and host Fairfield (633).

Sophomore Tommy Ellison led the Hens as finished tied for sixth in the individual competition with a score of 156. He shot a one over-par 73 on Friday and an 83 on Saturday. Ellison's sixth place finish was the best of his career at Delaware.

UD's Jason Bernstein finished 14th with a 160 while Joe McLister finished 18th with a 162 and Britt Murdoch and Josh Williamowsky tied for 38th with 166s.

The Hens are scheduled to return to action Saturday and Sunday, March 24-25, in the George Washington Invitational at Bear Trap Dunes Golf Course in Bethany Beach.
