UD Equestrian Team wins regional title 3:46 p.m., March 21, 2007--The University of Delaware Equestrian Team (UDET) became regional champions Saturday, March 10 at C-Line Stables in Odessa. UDET beat 11 other teams in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association event, including rival Delaware Valley College, which has won the title for the past three years. UDET has 110 members split into two teams, a Western team and an English team. Members vary in skill level and take lessons once a week in Middletown from their coach, Bryan Bradley. Team member Cheri Miller, a junior, said that everyone has worked hard this season. “We spent the entire show on the edge of our seats, but came through on top with two points more than Delaware Valley College, meaning that we had beaten out all 11 other schools in the region for the regional championship,” Miller said. A few members of the team will compete in the zone competition on April 7 in Pittsburgh. If they win, they will move on to the national competition, held May 3-6 in Massachusetts. UDET has not won a national championship since 1997. For more information, visit [http://copland.udel.edu/stu-org/udet/index.html]. Article by Lauren Steinhorn, AS '07 |
