Delaware to face VCU in CAA quarterfinals

Senior point guard Alena Koshansky and the Fightin’ Blue Hens will take on Virginia Commonwealth at 5 p.m., Friday, in the CAA championship tournament quarterfinals.

8:14 a.m., March 9, 2007--The University of Delaware women's basketball team will face Virginia Commonwealth University in a Colonial Athletic Association championship tournament quarterfinal game at 5 p.m., Friday, March 9, at the Bob Carpenter Center.

Virginia Commonwealth reached the quarterfinals with a 74-58 victory over Northeastern University on Thursday. The Fightin' Blue Hens, who enter the tournament 25-4, enjoyed a first round bye. UD is lead by Head Coach Tina Martin and features standout senior guard Tyresa Smith, who was named the conference defensive player of the year, forward Chrissy Fisher and point guard Alena Koshansky.

In other quarterfinal action today, top seed Old Dominion will meet Drexel University at noon, Hofstra University will meet the College of William and Mary at 2:30 p.m., and James Madison University will meet the University of North Carolina Wilmington at 7:30 p.m. Drexel defeated Georgia State University 73-62 to advance to the quarterfinals, while William and Mary defeated George Mason University 79-69 and UNC Wilmington upset Towson University 55-41.

The semifinals are set for noon and 2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 10, with the championship game at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 11.

UD student tickets are $6 per student per session. A session includes admission to all games played that day. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the box office in the Trabant University Center or the Bob Carpenter Center. Tickets also will be available at the Bob Carpenter Center on game days.

UD students are encouraged to wear their Cockpit T-shirts and yellow spirit wigs to Hen games.

For the general public, tickets can be purchased through the box offices of CAA member institutions, by calling the University of Delaware box office at (302) 831-2257, or by logging on to [www.ticketmaster.com]. Tickets cost $35 per book, which includes all 11 games. Cost per session is $13 for adults.

All 11 games of the CAA women's basketball championship will be available via various multimedia platforms. Friday's quarterfinal contests will be web streamed on [www.caasports.com], and live stats also will be available.

Comcast CN8 and other CAA television affiliates will televise both semifinal games on Saturday. The semifinals can also be viewed on the Internet at [www.cn8.tv]. Comcast SportsNet will televise the CAA championship game on Sunday afternoon.
