Blue Hen Weekend: Lacrosse, baseball set

Delaware’s D.J. Widlake is the CAA rookie of the week after scoring a pair of goals against Georgetown.

4:18 p.m., March 22, 2007--The University of Delaware athletic complex will be a busy place this weekend, with home games for both lacrosse teams at Rullo Stadium and a Colonial Athletic Association baseball series at Bob Hannah Stadium.

The Fightin' Blue Hens women's lacrosse team will take on Davidson College at 3 p.m., Friday, March 23, at Rullo Stadium. The Hens are 2-3 to open the season, and are coming off a 15-8 victory over St. Bonaventure University on Wednesday. In that game, UD junior attack Casey McCrudden scored six goals.

Davidson is 0-7, and is coming off an 8-4 loss to Ohio State University.

At the same time as the women's lacrosse game, the UD baseball team will begin its second CAA series of the season, taking on Hofstra University at 3 p.m. at Bob Hannah Stadium. The series will continue with games at 1 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.

The Hens are 3-10 overall and 1-2 in the conference, and are coming off a dramatic 9-8 victory over St. Joseph's University. Hofstra is 7-11 overall and 2-4 in the CAA.

The UD men's lacrosse team, ranked No. 14 in NCAA Division I, will face Hofstra in a CAA battle at 7 p.m., Saturday, at Rullo Stadium. The Hens are 5-2 and are looking to snap a two-game skid. UD freshman D.J. Widlake, who scored two goals in the 9-8 loss to Georgetown University, is the CAA rookie of the week.

Hofstra, the defending CAA champion, is 1-3. The Pride has lost 9-8 to Johns Hopkins University and 5-4 to Princeton University in its two most recent games.

Away from campus, the UD softball team will play a weekend CAA series at Drexel University. The teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m., Saturday, and a single game at 11 a.m., Sunday.

The tennis teams will take on host Florida Institute of Technology at 1 p.m., Friday, the golf team will compete in the George Washington Invitational at Bear Trap Dunes Golf Course in Bethany Beach on Saturday and Sunday, the track teams will compete in the Towson Invitational on Saturday, and the rowing team will participate in the Murphy Cup in Philadelphia on Saturday.
