Blue Hen Weekend: CAA hoops, baseball

8:10 a.m., March 9, 2007--The big story on campus this weekend is the Colonial Athletic Association women's basketball championship tournament, which is being played at the Bob Carpenter Center.

The semifinals will be played at noon and 2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 10, with the finals at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 11. If the Hens advance to the semifinals, they will play in the 2:30 game on Saturday. To keep up on the action, head to the Bob Carpenter Center or check out the CAA web site at [www.caasports.com].

In other action on campus, the Fightin' Blue Hens baseball team will play a three-game CAA series against Towson University, with games Saturday and Sunday at Bob Hannah Stadium. The teams will meet in a doubleheader Saturday, with the first game beginning at noon, and will play a single game at 1 p.m., Sunday.

The Hens enter the series 0-6, having been swept in consecutive series at the University of Richmond and the University of Virginia. Towson is 3-6, with a victory over the University of North Florida and two over the State University of New York at Albany.

In weekend action off campus, the No. 10 UD men's lacrosse team will play at 1 p.m., Saturday, at Albany. The Hens are 5-0 to start the season but will face a serious test, as Albany is 2-0 and ranked No. 4 in the nation with an 8-7 victory over Johns Hopkins University in their season opener.

The UD softball team is competing Saturday and Sunday in the Dixie Classic tournament in Norfolk, Va. The Hens will face Marist College and the State University of New York at Binghamton on Saturday and Norfolk State University on Sunday.

The men's tennis team will travel to the University of Maryland for a match at noon, Saturday, and the women's rowing team is scheduled to compete against St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia.
